Jhmira Latrice Alexander, MPA

President, Executive Director, and Media Educator in Chicago

I am a strategist and nonprofit executive with deep expertise in fundraising, financial sustainability, and organizational development. An entrepreneur turned intrapreneur, I am known for centering community voice through collaboration and I believe in building sustainable change alongside those most impacted.

With nearly 20 years of experience leading mission-driven organizations, I partner with nonprofits, philanthropic collaboratives, and independent media groups to build resilient revenue strategies and sustainable growth models. I bring clarity to complexity, working alongside leadership teams to navigate transitions, strengthen infrastructure, and reimagine funding ecosystems. I am a trained journalist who cultivates diverse stakeholder groups to establish and ensure the success of cross functional teams.

Currently, I serve as the President and Executive Director of Public Narrative, a Chicago-based media resource nonprofit committed to supporting narrative change and community-oriented journalism for over 35 years. In 2024, Public Narrative became the administrators of the Chicago Independent Media Alliance (CIMA), a powerful collective that amplifies and supports the city’s independent media ecosystem.

I am a passionate advocate for inclusive storytelling, social justice, and the empowerment of marginalized voices. I thrive on helping leaders build, with confidence, from a place of integrity and purpose toward long-term, sustainable impact. Whether leading innovative journalism projects or steering initiatives that strengthen communities, I remain driven by the belief that narrative change is a catalyst for inspiring action and creating desired outcomes.

I have led projects for the Chicago Police Department, the Obama Foundation’s My Brother’s Keeper Alliance (Chicago), Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine and Medill School of Journalism, Media & Integrated Marketing Communications.

I'm a podcast host and speaker covering various topics affecting health, safety and education on platforms held by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Management Information Exchange, Council of the Great City Schools and the Association for Clinical Translational Science.

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Communications, Master of Public Administration and am a certified Conscious Ambassador of Trauma Informed Care.
